21. BITING THRU

The upper trigraph represents Clinging Fire.
The lower represents Arousing Thunder

This symbolizes a mouth with an obstruction
between the teeth (in the fourth position).

The result being that the lips cannot meet.
Thus one must bite through in vigorous feat.

As the storm, with its thunder and lightning,
rocks the boat and seems threatening...

Litigation brings success through legal process.
Vigorous biting thru problems brings success.

In order to prevent damage & loss prevention
vigorous measures must quickly be taken.

Here, proceeding in the right way is important.
Combine wielding clarity and firm excitement.

It's important that who makes the decision
commands respect by conduct and position.

Relations require reciprocal considerations,
practical goals, and guideline definitions.

We can expect more clashes and confusions
unless we take firm clear-headed actions.

Examine character and make determinations
as to habits, delusions, or rationalizations.

Ambivalent, or vague, principles, as a rule,
will transform one into an undirected fool.

Know what you want, and don't be fickle.
What it is about you that makes you real?

What things effect your behavior, health,
create inner conflict, or robs your wealth?

What brings you harmony with other people?
This is your guiding light and principle.

21. BITING THRU

THE LINES...

NINE AT BOTTOM:
At first wrong a mild penalty
may discourage evil activity.

SIX IN THE SECOND :
One bites through tender fruit
until one's nose sinks out of site
thus one cannot smell the rat.
To know what is wrong or right
is as easy as biting through fruit.
Be weary of the fruit with a hard pit
or those who give in to spiteful fit.

SIX IN THIRD PLACE MEANS:
In punishment by one lacking authority
the culprits do not submit voluntarily.
Getting involved only arouses hostility.
Here one is right and is blame free.

NINE IN THE FOURTH PLACE MEANS:
One must be hard and straight as an arrow
to surmount problems and get to the marrow.

SIX IN THE FIFTH PLACE MEANS:
A case in question is not easy (but it's clear).
Of this serious situation we are very aware.
Good fortune. It is our nature to be fair.

NINE AT THE TOP MEANS:
Misfortune. The neck is fastened, yoked,
so one's ears are covered and cloaked
so that one cannot hear what is spoked
as to the warnings obstinancy has evoked.
