36. HIDING ONE'S LIGHT

This is the opposite of 35. PROGRESS.
Here Dark Authority brings harm and distress.

One must persevere in these times of adversity
to avoid being swept away unfavorably.

Disallow the undermining of steadfastness
by adverse and darkening circumstances.

One avoids this by inner light maintaining
remaining outwardly tractable and yielding.

One must hide ones light in obscurity.
This attitude will overcome difficulty.

Deep inside you perseverance must dwell
thereby subtly making your will prevail.

The noble light has set below the grasses.
The superior one abides among the masses.

Your light is hidden yet it continues to shine.
Do not cast your pearls before swine.

Don't drag others censorially into the light.
You will appear a know-it-all even if right.

In time of darkness employ cautious modesty.
Don't needlessly awaken overwhelming emnity.

36. DARKENING: The Lines

NINE AT THE BOTTOM:
Lowering flight's wings during darkening...
One fasts for three days while wandering...
Giving others an occasion for gossiping.
With great expectations one is endeavoring
but encounters hostile Fates obstructing.
In fleeing and avoiding a time that's trying
Those one stays with aren't understanding.
Toward a fixed goal one continues striving.
One is true to oneself:  Not compromising.

SIX IN THE SECOND PLACE:
Here a lord of light is in subordinance
and is wounded by a lord of darkness.
The wound is not fatal but a hindrance.
One gives aid with strength of a horse.
One perseveres, keeping duty's course,
earning good fortune and Heaven's grace.

NINE IN THIRD PLACE:
A hunt in the south makes things darker.
Their great leader is taken prisoner.
One must not, too soon, push it here.
It seems as if fate was at work here.
Strong, loyal, persevering, and eager...
In good faith... Trying to create order...
One finds the ringleader of disorder,
as if by accident, resulting in capture.
In busting abuses don't be hasty, for
abuses have been existing much longer.

SIX IN FOURTH PLACE:
We're close to a lord of darkness
and we discover its inmost thoughts.
Realizing improvement's way is lost
we get out before we're storm-tossed.

SIX IN FIFTH PLACE:
One can't withdraw from evil tyranny.
Concealing feelings... Feigning insanity...
Held as slave... One disallows misery
to deflect one from one's destiny.

SIX AT THE TOP:
In heavenly place this dark power
wounded Light and made good cower.
Do not contend with this dark power.
It is not light but evil flower.
It climbed to heaven in dark tower.
It falls to earth in fiery shower.
